"It's never too late to become what you might have been"- George Eliot

You can start to become today what you desire to be. Sit quietly for a moment and think if there were no restraints in your daily life what would you work toward, what would you become. So often when we think about this, we then think about all the things that make what we want unrealistic. Many of them are real. We cannot become what we want to be overnight but we can get one step closer to what we want to be. Many people in therapy say I wanted to be this… or I wanted to do this with my life but then life got in the way. While it's true that life often takes us on a different path than we anticipated there is still often a way to get to that end goal, taking small steps, sometimes smaller than we would like but setting goals that move us in that direction. Think now about what comes up for you with the quote “It’s never too late to become what you might have been.” What might you have been and how can you start today to get yourself one step closer to that. Another thing that can propel you to what we might have been is thinking about what you were trying to capture in that old goal that you think has maybe passed you by. Was it the freedom of travel and the living in the moment that travel can bring? Was it the pursuit of knowledge and a conversation of knowledge with like-minded people? How can you capture the real essence of “what you might have been”? Perhaps you cannot travel the world but you can take a weekend trip to somewhere close by. Perhaps you can go to a conference on a topic that fascinates you or take a class to become “what you might have been”. It may not look the same but it may still be just what you need and maybe even better. If it feels right think about incorporating “what you might have been” and are becoming into your goals. Today look for a compliment and write a haiku or a poem for someone you love and delight them. Share your light with the world today.
